Call to
Order: Richard Kipper called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m.
Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the July 16, 2007 meeting were approved
as circulated.
Introduction:
Alex de Roode recently joined Maui CC to serve as the Executive Director of the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui. Alex has a duel B.A. in International Affairs and Economics from the University of Colorado at Boulder and recently completed his Master of Science degree in Bioresource Engineering at McGill University in Montreal . Alex has always had a passion for the environment and has acquired extensive experience in several environment related fields including: sustainable agriculture; renewable energy; environmental conservation; environmental education; protected areas management; social responsibility; and environmental entrepreneurship. He is looking forward to leading sustainability initiatives on Maui .
Fall Highlights

Suzette Robinson presented the results of the program review (see
attached.) She also shared information
on the summer sessions enrollment (lower than previous years, perhaps due to
the increase in fees.) Summer school
numbers went from 739 students in 2006 to 534 students in 2007. Tuition increased from $113/credit for
residents; $146/credit non-residents to $147/credit residents; $180/credit
non-residents. Five summer bridge
programs for High School students were held on campus: culinary arts, business
technology, automotive technology, electronics and computer engineering, and
nursing.

Alvin Tagomori shared information on the Fall enrollment and student
housing. Currently, students are being
housed at the Maui Seaside until the housing project can accommodate them.
Update
on Kūlanaa’o Student Housing:
Due to delays in
obtaining occupancy permits for Building A, 30 students moved into Maui Seaside
during the week of August 13 to August 18.
Students are not being charged any extra fees for hotel occupancy.
A Kūlanaa‘o
luncheon and orientation for students and parents was held at Maui Beach Hotel
on August 19th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Students will be
moving in to Kūlanaa‘o on September 13 & 14. Transportation services will be provided to
assist students with the move from the hotel to Kūlanaa‘o

David Tamanaha presented information on tuition and fees, state funding
budget, and CIP on the campus. The $2.96 million received in tuition exceeded
the MCC goal. David discussed the
replacement of the interior electrical system, re-roofing and installation of
possible photo voltaic units over the parking lot. The new Science building is proposed to be
55,000 square feet and a model of sustainability when it is completed. $37 million has been proposed by the
President’s office for the supplemental budget session (see attached.)

Nursing has 230 students with another 100 in the queue. The program has had tremendous support from
the County. MCC will be hosting the
Marketing Plan: Katie McMillan presented a draft of the marketing
plan. This included a website update,
community partnerships, advertising, events (e.g. County Fair, Barrio
Festival), internet links, and direct mailings.
Recruitment of students will focus on the U.S.West Coast, China, and
Community Forum: Katie shared the results of
the community forum. One outcome of the
forum was the need for more communication from the college. The forum also may help MCC identify
individuals who can fill advisory roles (see attached.)

Government Relations: September 20 Clyde will be hosting the Ag, Economic
Development, Tourism and Culture Committee chairs at Pa`ina. On October 10 Roz Baker will be hosting the
