Lau’ulu TV

Welcome to Lau’ulu TV

Lau’ulu was created in 1992 by a group of Hawaiian educators to promote the educational and cultural success of Hawaiian students. The literal meaning of Lau’ulu is breadfruit leaf. The more symbolic meaning is understood through the pairing of the words “lau” and “ulu”. Lau also means many; ulu means to grow. Therefore Lau’ulu can also mean to “grow in many ways”.

Lau’ulu TV was developed in 2006 as an offshoot to the Lau’ulu program. Produced at Maui Community College, Lau’ulu TV airs Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7:00pm and 11:00pm on Oceanic Cable 55. Because of the limited reach of cable television and our desire to share Lau’ulu TV with a larger audience, we have developed this website. When complete, Lau’ulu TV will offer the entire 36 program series for downloading.

The producers wish to publicly acknowledge those individuals who have so graciously appeared on Lau’ulu TV. By sharing their wisdom and knowledge, these individuals actively preserve and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture, its language and its values.
