Scholarships are Seasonal
The scholarship season begins in January with the release of federal financial aid forms and scholarship applications for the next academic year (Fall through Summer). The majority of scholarships are out in January and due March 1st, although you will find scholarships with deadlines throughout the year. Scholarships are seasonal, widely available, competitive, and another source of college funding. If you need help, call the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) at 984-3286 for individual assistance. Also see Scholarship Tips for additional information. The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) has been researching and compiling a list of available scholarships that have been grouped into Internal (Maui CC scholarships) and External scholarships ( state, Native Hawaiian, high school, and national).

Maui CC Internal Scholarships
Maui CC offers a number of internal grants and scholarships, including scholarships for high achieving incoming high school graduates, opportunity grants, and others. These require a short application form and a FAFSA form. High achieving incoming high school students (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher) interested in being considered for the B+ scholarship and others should have their high school transcripts sent to Maui CC’s Financial Aid Office, 310 Kaahumanu Avenue, Kahului, HI 96732.
Dislocated Worker Discount Program
One time 50% tuition discount for laid off employees of Aloha Airlines, ATA Airlines, Weyerhaeuser Corporation, Molokai Ranch, Maui Land and Pine, and the Hawaii Super Ferry. Discount applies to both credit and non-credit tuition, not to exceed $500. All eligible employees will have evidence of eligibility signed by the Dept. of Labor One Stop Center.
Open to Maui CC students interested in a career in Sustainable Energy. Opportunity to work with local energy companies getting 5-6 hours a week inside their offices getting hands on training. Complete a report at the end of the semester and be eligible for a $1,000 stipend. First come, first served. Open to all majors. Email rgallen@hawaii.edu for more information.

UH System Students
University of Hawai`i System Financial Aid and Scholarships Information. Primary resource for financial aid and scholarships within the UH System. Information on the Centennial Scholars, UH Manoa Chancellor’s, UH Hilo Chancellor’s, and the State of Hawai‘i B Plus Scholarships. Links to the UH System scholarship (see link below) and the SEED (Student Equity, Excellence and Diversity) program administered scholarships.
Statewide
AmeriCorps HELP/Students in Service Program Stipends awarded to students doing some kind of volunteer service as an AmeriCorps member and not receiving any payment. Students should meet eligibility criteria for AmeriCorps HELP program. Log onto studentsinservice.org, complete the Pre-Service Orientation and print the certificate. E-mail helphi@hawaii.edu for orientation schedules.
College Connections Hawaii (CCH) A non-profit dedicated to improving educational opportunities for Hawai`i residents. On-line registration required to search scholarship database. Primarily for graduating high school students.
Hawaii Foster Parent Association Higher education payment to PAST and PRESENT Foster Youth for UP TO FIVE YEARS. $529 a month. Contact your last social worker, Hawaii Dept. of Human Services Hotline 808-832-5300, or the Hawaii Foster Youth Coalition at 808-255-8365.
Central Union Church Women’s League. KENNETH O. REWICK Educational Grant ($1,000): must be a resident of Hawaii or have graduated from a high school in Hawaii, have applied and been accepted at a college in Hawaii or elsewhere. Awards are made without regard to religious affiliation. RUTH C. SCUDDER Scholarship ($1,000): awarded to a women of Christian affiliation who is currently enrolled as an undergraduate in the UH system. Applications available at EOC. Deadline: Last day of February.
Native Hawaiian Students
Hana Lima Scholarship Offering vocational scholarships to students enrolling in a program during Fall 2009. One time award of $1,500. Must be enrolled at least half-time and have a minimum 2.0 GPA. Applications available on-line and at EOC. Deadline: Nov. 6, 2009.
Native Hawaiian scholarship program administered by Maui Community College and available statewide. On-line application. Registration and short essay required. Roll-in deadlines. Deadline: Nov. 1, 2009.
Paipai Scholarship – OHA Vocational Education For Native Hawaiians enrolling in career and vocational programs. Preference given to non-traditional students who are single parents, disabled (by ADA definition), houseless, sole income providers, wards of the court, or who were previously incarcerated. Applications available at EOC. Deadline: On-going. Awards made until funds disbursed.
National

Gates Millennium Scholarship Scholarships funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Native Hawaiian Scholars Program College Connections Hawaii sponsored scholarship for Native Hawaiian public school students graduating between 2006-2010. Must enroll in a four-year college, attend full-time, and develop a plan for graduate school or employment after college. Requires participation for five year period.
