2024 KANI KŪOLA MUSIC FESTIVAL AT UH MAUI COLLEGE GALLERY

A great time was had by all yesterday at the Kani Kūola Music Festival at University of Hawai’i Maui College. If you missed it, you missed out. Mahalo again to all of our mentors, support staff, and attendees, including Mailelauli’i Naki who flew in from Honolulu to help support the event, the mentors, and feed our attendees. We don’t know where Kani Kūola will be next year, but it will be great.

It was also special for us to host Kimié Miner’s MeleCraft program with her mentors Henry Kapono, Paula Fuga, and Anuhea who worked with youth 14-22 with aspirations of a music career. There was some serious talent there!

Also to Brian Kohne and his Academy of Creative Media Maui team at UHMC for showcasing their cutting edge program and showing Maui the opportunities about for those wanting to get into the field.

Mahalo to Stephen Fox for the great photos! Also to Mayor Richard Bissen for opening up with some mana‘o on the role music has played in his life. Last but certainly not least, mahalo piha to the hardest working crew yesterday – Deanna Kamake‘e‘āina-Reece, her husband Jim, and her students. They were the first there yesterday to set up, stayed all day to run audio, record the event for posterity, and they were the last to leave at the end of the show.
