Early College is a Win-Win Opportunity!

Early College is a partnership between the Hawai‘i DOE and the University of Hawai‘i System. It provides Maui High School (HS) students with an opportunity to take “sheltered” college courses with their peers.

It is a win-win opportunity because students can receive both high school and college credit (dual credit) concurrently.

Benefits of Early College

Early College provides HS students with the opportunity to earn college credit in a comfortable setting.
Assist with the development of college success behaviors including time management and study skills.
Introduction to college courses and instructor expectations.
Shorter times to college degree attainment and increased financial savings.
Start your future debt free! Full time annual tuition is $3144 compared to $29,520 required at other institutions. With attainable financial aid and available scholarships many students qualify for reduced or no cost tuition.

Meet The Instructors

Derek Snyder

Associate Professor of English

Derek has been teaching in the University of Hawaiʻi system since 2002, and dual enrollment courses on Maui since 2010. Taking dual enrollment courses is an excellent way to begin your higher education journey. The opportunity to enroll in college courses while still in high school helps students build early confidence and comfort with the expectations of college.

Meet The Students

Leanne Orsono

Maui High Graduate and UHMC Pre-Nursing Student

“...One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I was able to experience what college courses were like and learn new things. Another benefit to being a dual-enrolled student is that you get to be a part of the UH system. Already having a student ID made applying to UH schools much more convenient.”
