Summer 2024 Financial Aid

Below is some general information regarding summer enrollment and financial aid. Please call us if you have any questions at 808-984-3277.

Important Enrollment Info

  • To be eligible for federal financial aid, students must be registered for all of their Summer courses by June 11, 2024
  • Students also need to be meeting all academic and eligibility requirements after the Spring 2024 semester to be eligible for summer aid.
  • For Distance Education/Concurrent courses, you may be eligible for aid for your course(s) if
    • you are registered for at least one University of Hawai'i Maui College course and
    • the distance course is an eligible course for your degree program at UHMC

Summer Eligibility

  • Am I eligible for Federal Financial Aid for the summer?
    • Generally YES – if you were not full-time in Fall 2023 & Spring 2024; AND did not receive the full Pell Grant award you were eligible for
    • Possibly – if you were full-time in Fall 2023 & Spring 2024; you could be considered for a Pell Grant, but only if you will be enrolled in at least 6 financial aid eligible credits during the summer

Costs

  • Summer tuition costs for many classes are typically higher, and financial aid may not fully cover these expenses as it does during the Fall/Spring terms.

Disbursement Info

  • Generally, funds will not be disbursed prior to your class starting. Please be prepared to pay for your books and supplies.
  • Disbursements will not be made until Spring 2024 grades are checked
  • Summer disbursement dates are:
    • Jun 7, 2024 for courses starting on or before June 6, 2024
    • Jul 9, 2024 for courses beginning after June 6, 2024

Summer Loan Info

  • Students are eligible to apply for summer student loans only if they have not already reached the maximum annual award limits during the Fall 2023/Spring 2024 semesters.
  • Student loans require at least 6 eligible credits of enrollment during the term.
  • The deadline to submit summer loan request forms is two weeks prior to the end of your last class for the term.
  • If you are a first time, first year loan borrower you will be on a 30 day loan disbursement delay.
  • Please note that loans cannot be disbursed until students have started/completed at least 6 credits.
    • For example, if you are taking two courses that are 3 credits each and one starts in May and the other starts in July, your loans cannot be disbursed until July. Also it can only be given to you if you have passed or are still enrolled in the May course.
