Agriculture & Natural Resources

Program Overview

Associate of Applied Science / 60-62 credits

The Agriculture and Natural Resources Program provides science-based instruction and hands-on skills training to work in a wide variety of sustainable “green industry” jobs.  An emphasis on entrepreneurship is included to prepare students to be a vibrant part of Hawaii’s growing kama’aina economy.  Degree seeking students, students intending to transfer, as well as those  interested in a few targeted courses for professional development are encouraged to be part of the program.

There are three general academic tracks in the program: crop production, landscaping, and resource management.  Students can work toward an Associate in Applied Science in Sustainable Tropical Crop Production or Horticulture and Landscape Maintenance; or work with the Program Coordinator to develop an Associate in Technical Studies in Cultural and Natural Resource Management.  Farmer development training is condensed in a Certificate of Competence.

Length of Program
An Associates degree takes 2 years (4 semesters) to complete as a Full-Time student. However many working students will come on a part time basis and spend more time to earn a degree. A 2 semester set of courses prepares students to become farming entrepreneurs. Other specializations such as Beekeeping are offered as Certificates.
