DIRECT LOAN PROCESS

Please note that the Federal Student Aid Office of the U.S. Department of Education has combined content and features from studentloans.gov, fsaid.ed.gov and nslds.ed.gov on the official federal student aid website studentaid.gov  Future updates may be in progress.

If you have previously received a Federal Direct Loan at UH Maui College, follow the instructions below:

Go to studentaid.gov and click “Log In” in the top right corner. You will need your verified FSA ID and password. Scroll down and click on “View Your Documents” under the MORE RESOURCES menu. Make sure that you have completed a Master Promissory note and Entrance counseling for UH Maui College.   If both requirements are completed there is no further action you need to take.

If this is your first time receiving a Federal Direct Loan at UH Maui College, follow the instructions below:

After you have submitted a Loan Request Form to the UH Maui Financial Aid Office you must wait ONE WEEK before you complete the Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN) process below.

**NOTE: If you are a freshman student and a first-time borrower, you are not eligible for your loan until 30 days into the semester, at which time we may ask you to verify your attendance in your classes.**

COMPLETING THE ENTRANCE COUNSELING AND MASTER PROMISSORY NOTE

You will need your verified FSA ID (FAFSA Username & Password).  If you do not have a FSA ID, click here to apply for one.

1.  Go to studentaid.gov

2. Click “COMPLETE AND PROCESS” option from the menu across the top

3. Under Next Steps you will need to complete
Step 05 Complete Entrance Counseling for your first loan
Step 04 Sign Loan Agreement (Complete a Master Promissory Note – MPN for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans)

4. Click the “LOG IN TO START” button

5. Enter your FSA ID (FAFSA Username & Password) and click Log In

6.  Follow the instructions on the Complete Loan Counseling screen for Entrance Counseling

7.  Follow the instructions on the Complete Master Promissory Note screen. You will need information for 2 references.

Your loan funds will be received by the school approximately 2 weeks after you have completed the online Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note.
