PLA - What is PLA?
Prior Learning Assessment allows students to earn college credit by identifying and documenting college-level learning acquired through life experiences. These experiences may have been gained from military service, on the job, professional certification courses, volunteer work, or independent study.
If you have a significant background (or expertise) in a subject area taught at UH Maui College, you may already qualify for college credit.
If you get a grade of C or higher on the exam, you will earn course credit.
Before being awarded credit, you will need to pay 50% of the regular course fee.
You can take a national standardized test like CLEP or DANTES.
Fee is assessed by testing company not UH Maui College
Training must have contained content equivalent to college-level work
There is no cost for this type of PLA.

There are Three ways to earn PLA credit:
Credit by Institutional Exam
An instructor can test you to see if you have the knowledge to pass a course offered at UH Maui College.If you get a grade of C or higher on the exam, you will earn course credit.

Standardized Testing
Standardized tests are national exams that allow you to demonstrate your proficiency in specific subject areas.You can take a national standardized test like CLEP or DANTES.

Non-Collegiate Sponsored Education
You can apply to get credit for formal training you've taken elsewhere, such as through the military, your employer, or while pursuing professional licenses or industry certifications.Training must have contained content equivalent to college-level work
There is no cost for this type of PLA.
