Prior Learning Assessment – Getting Started

Procedures to Receive Credit for Prior Learning

To receive PLA credit at UH Maui College, you must go through a formal application procedure. Your prior learning will be evaluated by faculty teaching the course(s) you want credit for.

Follow these steps:
  1. Schedule an appointment with a PLA advisor.
  2. Decide with the advisor which UH Maui College courses you want prior learning credit for and which PLA method to use.
  3. Your PLA advisor will work with appropriate faculty to approve the PLA request.
  4. Upon approval, pay any required fees.
  5. Take exam or submit evidence of non collegiate sponsored training.
  6. Registrar’s office awards credit/no credit.
Note: Each type of PLA has specific procedures associated with it. Please read the tabs under Three Ways to Earn Credit on this website for details.
